I never dreamed this would happen!!!
And yet there it is, in my hands. The compliment of the year as far as I'm concerned: Haagse Fiets Chic made it onto someone else's book cover! Not just that, but before I could even get my own book to print and a mere 18 months after launching on social media. Wow!
And not just any book either - my photo was chosen for a book all about living life in the Netherlands because it was described by the publisher as the best photograph he'd seen as an embodiment of "typisch nederlandse vrouw op het fiets." WOW!
I have to say, when I launched Haagse Fiets Chic eighteen months ago, it never entered my mind that I'd get this far, so quickly. So when I was approached at the end of last year, with the opportunity to feature one of my personal favorites from Haagse Fiets Chic on the cover of the Holland Handbook 2016/2017, I was more than elated. I was further sent over the moon when the publisher described my photography as really capturing "typisch nederlandse" in a way he'd not seen before, especially this one photo, which he again said was a perfect example of a typisch nederlandse vrouw.
It's quite an epic book, too. Living in the Netherlands the last 20 years has been an opportunity of a lifetime for me and a true delight. However, if I had this book when I first moved here 20 years ago, it would have saved me a few rough patches along the way. It's an great collection of material covering just about everything you need to know about living life in the Netherlands as an Expat.
All in all, it's a book that I am very proud and honored to have one of Haagse Fiets Chic's photograph's selected for. It's a book that will be very useful to anyone considering life in the Netherlands, or who is already here. It also explains a lot more than just the laws and regulations, but also the culture and the communities that exist here. It will help anyone who's seeking to become a member of Dutch society and help you find your way.
If you're an Expat/immigrant already, or going to be or just thinking about it, I really urge you to at least check this book out. It's available online at the URL below and at the American Book Center in Amsterdam and The Hague.
Oh, and one more thing... I could use your help.
Sadly, I never figured out who this lady in the photograph is. She appears to have never been tagged or called out despite being liked and commented on as one of my best photos. I've showcased her framed photo at public exhibitions and have received lots of great feedback about her and the photo, which I wish to share with her. I also thought I'd present her the same framed photo I previously publicly displayed and a copy of the book. The feedback I've received from this photo has positively affected me very personally in terms of all the praise and feedback I continue to receive from it. And I just feel very inspired to share some of that with her. After all, being called someone who is beautifully "typicsch nederlandse vrouw" by a successful publisher, is quite a compliment to pass on to that person, even if she is a total stranger, don't you think?
I stood on this same spot over many days over the course of the last few months, trying to keep my eye open for her in the hopes I could catch her and share with her, but "helaas pindakaas" - no luck.
So here's what I would like to ask of you. If you know of this lady, or think you know how I can find her - would you please get in touch with me? Send me a PM on social media or drop me an email at email@example.com and help me setup an introduction meeting with her. I'd really like to be the one who tells her about this personally, of course, and also present her with a sincere gesture of my appreciation to her - because without her, this photograph never would have happened. But you and other friends are more than welcome (and encouraged) to be there when and where I meet her and for your help to make this a very uplifting and positive experience for her too.
And if you can help me - I'll also offer you a personally signed copy of the Holland Handbook 2016/2017 and my immense thanks and appreciation in helping me find her. :)
Peace, Love and Happiness to you all!
